Ferris Wheels in Second Life

I am not as active in Second Life as I used to be. However, the one project I created that I am always asked about is my Ferris Wheel. You can see the ferris wheel here.

Heaton Research's New(smaller) Home in SL

Given that we are now focusing more on neural network programming, than Second Life, we are scaling back our Second Life operations considerably. Heaton Research at one point had three islands in Second Life. We are dropping back to just a small area on "mainland" so that people can pick up the examples from our books. You can see the new Heaton Research home here.

You can access this area, and download any of our book examples, from the following URL.

Notecard Givers in Second Life

Another great Second Life YouTube video by Mike Lively of Northern Kentucky University. This time he shows how to create a notecard giver. One of the notecard givers in this video makes use of the notecard giver script found in Scripting Recipes for Second Life. A notecard giver allows you to pass out notecards, or really any Second Life object, to visitors in Second Life. Notecard givers are very common in the Second Life world. See how to create your own!

Jet Bands in Second Life

Jet bands are similar to jet packs in Second Life. This is a simple device that you wear about the wrist of your avatar. It allows you to fly above the 200m limit imposed by Second Life. This two-part YouTube video shows how to create a jet band. This is a user contributed video, I did not make it, though it is based on code from Scripting Recipes for Second Life. It is very well done and I am sure it enjoy it. It was created by Mike Lively of Northern Kentucky University.

Building Jet Packs in Second Life

Jet Packs can be very useful in Second Life. A jet pack allows you to fly much higher than Second Life normally allows. This video tutorial shows how to create a jet pack that not only allows you to fly higher than the limits imposed by Second Life, but also includes a hover feature that holds your avatar in place when it is high up.

Ferris Wheels in Second Life

This ferris wheel was one of my first creations in Second Life that used the Linden Scripting Language. The somewhat tricky part is to keep the cars upright as the wheel spins. This takes a little basic trig, but is not too hard. This is my first YouTube production, and is mostly meant to allow me to get used to moving Second Life content into YouTube. I hope to provide video tutorials for some of my book's material. Stay tuned!
