Introduction to the Math of Neural Networks released to beta

I am trying something new with my books. I am making the ebooks available for purchase while they are still in a "beta" state. This worked well with the Encog3 book, and now I am going to try it with my latest book.

Programming Neural Networks with Encog3 in C#/Java now available in beta form

I've released a beta form of the new Neural Network Programming for Java/C#. If you purchased this book's predecessor for Encog 2, you should already have a free upgrade sitting in your download page:

Encog 3.0.1 Released for Java and C#

Encog 3.0.1 has been released for Java and C#. This is mainly a "service release", and does not introduce any new functionality. This is mainly bug fixes found since 3.0.0. All new functionality is currently part of 3.1, which will be released later.

  • Fixed comma-decimal issue in Encog Analyst
  • Fixed NormalizationStorageNeuralDataSet to use newer ML datasets
  • Improved getError documentation
  • Fixed increase neuron count prune issue
  • Fixed issue with genetic XOR factory example
  • Fixed a few Java 7 issues

Looking for volunteers/help for a reasonbly easy Encog extension... PROBEN1

Okay, if you've been looking for a chance to contribute to Encog, this might be it. This falls very much under the domain of traditional programming, and not so much under the more "advanced mathematical" extensions we've been doing with Encog lately. Also it is fine to help in C# or Java, this is very much a "parallel" effort. Also I will guide/help this effort, and write the "core" of it.

Java was released a few weeks ago. This completes the 3.0 release. This will allow work to begin on Encog 3.1 and any bug fixes will go into Encog 3.0.1.

For more information on the features in Encog 3.0.0 refer to the Java release:

Encog for Java 3.0.0 Released

Encog 3.0.0 for Java has been released. .Net will follow in a few days.

This release of Encog brings many changes such as multiple RPROP types, QuickProp, PNN/GRNN and less overhead communicating to the flat networks. Major enhancements to the Encog Workbench, as well as the Encog Analyst, which supports automatic normalization.

Downloads are now through GitHub:

Beginnings of the Encog Realtime Protocol

I am writing this post to begin discussion on the next generation of Encog financial integration. Many financial examples written using machine learning use EOD data, using a simple time-boxing method, often downloading EOD data from Google or Yahoo. My examples also fit into this category. I find financial forecasting to be an interesting application of Encog, and I want to expand this greatly.
